Do I need painting experience?
No. The retreat is explicitly suitable for any level — from absolute beginner to experienced hobby painter. Nadia Schreiner works in small groups and takes individual time for each participant. Acrylic on canvas is forgiving and especially accessible for beginners.
Who is Nadia Schreiner?
Nadia Schreiner is a Luxembourgish artist and founder of Painting Journeys. Her works merge Pop Art, Minimalism and Surrealism into a distinctive style. She has been teaching workshops successfully for years and is known for making art accessible to every skill level. More about Nadia.
Which painting technique is taught?
Acrylic on canvas. This technique is versatile, expressive and suitable for every level — acrylics dry quickly, can be mixed, painted over and layered, making them ideal for beginners and advanced painters alike. More about the workshop.
Can I take my finished painting home?
Yes — your finished work is yours to keep. You take it home as a lasting memory of the retreat. We help with safe transport or shipping if needed.
How large are the groups?
Groups are intentionally kept small so Nadia can give every participant individual attention. This also preserves the intimate, exclusive atmosphere of the chalet. The exact maximum participant count depends on the available rooms.
Which languages are spoken?
Workshops are conducted in German. Nadia also speaks fluent English and French, so international guests can participate without issue. On request, the workshop can be held bilingually.

Where does the retreat take place?
At the luxurious chalet DasKöniglich in Mühlbach am Hochkönig, Salzburg, Austria. The 330 m² chalet offers 5 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a panoramic sauna, a high-end kitchen and 160 m² of terraces with unobstructed views of the Hochkönig mountain range.
How do I get to Mühlbach am Hochkönig?
Mühlbach am Hochkönig is in the Salzburg Pongau region, about 50 km south of Salzburg. By car via the A10 Tauern motorway (exit Bischofshofen). By train to Bischofshofen, then transfer or bus. The nearest airport is Salzburg (W. A. Mozart Airport, ca. 1 h drive). We can arrange a transfer on request.
When is the next retreat?
The current retreat is sold out. A new date is being planned. Join the waitlist and we'll inform you as soon as the date is confirmed — waitlist spots are prioritised.
What are the cancellation terms?
Cancellation terms are discussed individually during booking confirmation, since we work with small, curated groups. We generally recommend taking out travel cancellation insurance. Reach out directly with any detailed questions.
Is the retreat also suitable for men?
Absolutely. The retreat is open to all adult guests regardless of gender. Groups are often predominantly female, but mixed groups and male solo participants are explicitly welcome.
How does the deposit work?
A deposit is typically paid on booking confirmation, with the balance due before arrival. Exact terms are confirmed individually during booking — please ask directly.
How much is the transfer from Salzburg Airport?
The transfer from Salzburg Airport (W. A. Mozart) to DasKöniglich takes about 1 hour. We arrange private or shared transfers on request; the cost depends on group size and is confirmed individually.
Can I extend my stay before or after the retreat?
On request, yes — subject to availability, an additional night at DasKöniglich or an extension in the region (e.g. Salzburg) can be arranged. Reach out directly.
How many participants are there at most?
Groups are intentionally small — typically under 10 painting participants plus optional non-painting companions. The maximum depends on room configuration (5 bedrooms). This keeps Nadia's individual attention possible.
Which acrylic paints are used?
Nadia works with professional acrylics from high-grade manufacturers (e.g. Amsterdam, Liquitex or comparable). Brushes, canvases in multiple sizes, mixing palettes and accessories are also provided in pro quality.
What size are the canvases?
Several canvas formats are available — typically between ~50×70 cm and 80×100 cm. Nadia advises on day one which format suits your motif and skill level.
Are vegetarian or vegan meals available?
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, allergy and intolerance needs are collected before the retreat and addressed individually by the private chef and at breakfast. Please let us know during booking.
Is there WiFi at the chalet?
Yes. DasKöniglich has WiFi throughout — although most guests treat the stay as a deliberate digital break.
Are pets allowed?
Out of respect for the group and the studio atmosphere, pets are not allowed at DasKöniglich.
What happens in bad weather?
The programme is weather-resilient. In rain we move outdoor activities inside, to the sauna, or to the studio area. With 330 m² of living space the chalet is comfortable for workshops, yoga and meals even in poor weather.
When is the best time to come?
The classic summer retreats run June–September, when alpine meadows are open and evenings are warm. Spring and autumn offer clear views and fewer tourists. Winter formats are possible too.
How is this different from Painting Journeys?
Painting Journeys is Nadia's workshop brand with various formats at different locations. The Private Art Retreat is one of these — the most exclusive and intensive, hosted at a private luxury chalet with an all-inclusive premium format. Operated by KöniglichMoments.
